| Artbiochem S.L. was created as a result of research carried out at the University of Murcia on the biochemical characteristics of agricultural products in the Region of Murcia, Spain. These studies identified the artichoke, and in particular artichoke waste produced by the vegetable conserve industry, as a potential source of compounds of value to the food and biotech industries.

The company was developed in two stages. First, the R & D department was established in March 2002. This phase consisted of the optimization of product recovery at laboratory scale using a combination of traditional processing methods and the most innovative technologies.

Recently the second stage of company development commenced. In May 2005 Artbiochem S.L. moved to new facilities in Archena (Murcia) and started production tests. Artichoke peroxidase (an enzyme with various applications in market areas such as biomedicine and the chemical industry) was selected as the company’s first product.
Currently Artbiochem S.L. continues in this phase with the development of simpler and more efficient processes to obtain inulin, polyphenol-rich extracts and enzymes. |
